Electrical Safety and EMC Requirements in Israel

Israel runs a certification system covering electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility, mandatory for anyone manufacturing, importing or selling electronic devices there. Safety follows national standards based on the IEC series by product class; EMC follows the IEC 61000 series.

Which two assessments does Israel require?

Israel enforces a certification system covering Safety, electrical safety, and EMS, electromagnetic compatibility. Both are mandatory for companies that manufacture, import or sell electronic devices in the country.

Without certification, products cannot be sold, and non-compliance carries serious penalties.

What does Safety cover?

Safety requirements protect users and equipment from electric shock, overheating, fire and mechanical damage. The assessment asks whether the device is reliably designed: whether insulation withstands the current loads, whether leakage current occurs, and whether the housing materials tolerate high temperatures.

Israeli national standards are adoptions of international norms: the SI number is the Israeli designation of the IEC text, and which one applies follows the product class.

One date to check against

A revised edition of SI 62368 Part 1 was published in the Official Gazette in January 2025 and came into force on 31 January 2026. Reports issued against the superseded edition were accepted during the transition; that window has now closed, so re-check a file assembled before it against the current edition before submission.

What does EMS cover?

EMC evaluates whether a device operates correctly in an electromagnetic environment, that it neither generates harmful interference nor fails under external electromagnetic influence.

Specialised laboratories run the testing, which covers:

  • Radiated emissions
  • Immunity to electrostatic discharge
  • Surge and voltage-spike immunity
  • Reaction to radiofrequency fields and magnetic exposure

The Israeli EMC requirements are based on the IEC 61000 series.

Why the alignment matters

Both halves of the Israeli system are built on international standards. For a manufacturer already testing to IEC 62368-1 or the IEC 61000 series for another market, the engineering work is largely done, the project becomes one of routing existing evidence through the Israeli process rather than starting again.

A market with its own bespoke test methods is a materially different proposition, so establish which of the two you are dealing with before budgeting.
