EAC Marking for Explosion-Proof Equipment: TR CU 012
TR CU 012/2011 covers electrical equipment, Ex components and non-electrical equipment with explosion protection. Six items are mandatory on the marking, it must be in the Union's working language, and it has to sit where an inspector can read it without tools and survive the whole life of the equipment. Both the Ex mark and the EAC mark go on.
What does TR CU 012 cover?
Electrical equipment, including Ex components, and non-electrical equipment whose design gives it explosion protection. Anything in that scope carries both the Ex marking and the EAC mark.
For explosion-proof equipment the certificate of conformity is the only available form. There is no declaration route, and no scheme that lets a manufacturer self-declare its way into the Customs Union.
What must the marking say?

Item 6 is where mistakes cluster. Both marks go on. The Ex mark says the product is explosion-protected equipment under TR CU 012; the EAC mark says a conformity document exists. Neither substitutes for the other.
The marking must be drawn up in the Union’s working language.
Where does it go, and for how long?
On the surface of the equipment or on a plate, in a position that can be inspected without disassembly and without a special tool, and it has to remain legible for the whole life of the equipment.
That second half is a durability requirement, not a formatting one. A printed adhesive label that survives two years in a process environment does not comply, however correct its contents were on the day it was applied.
What else can go on the plate?
The manufacturer may add more, and the supply contract sometimes requires it. The regulation lists what tends to matter for safe use:
- Rated voltage, or the range of rated voltages
- Working voltage for continuous operation
- Symbol for the kind of current, if the rated frequency is not given
- Symbol for the shock-hazard protection class
- Degree of protection provided by the enclosure
- Rated consumed or useful power, or the rated current
- Weight
- Dimensions
- Date of manufacture
None of these are mandatory under TR CU 012. Agree all of them with the buyer before the plates are made, because reworking a nameplate after the equipment ships is expensive in a way that adding a line to the artwork is not.
